Talk about bizzare...

I'm playing #7, and using the next to last patch (1.1?)

It is November, and I'm unloading the entire Australian 7th division, plus a few extra engineer and armored units, at Buna. Currently the base is occupied by a Japanese force of about 5,000+. My own force totals 20,000+.

Finally my force is completely unloaded and I order a deliberate attack on Buna. Now comes the weird part.

Suddenly, one of the Aussie brigades (25th?) gets teleported to Rabaul, and proceeds to launch it's own attack on the fortress. Problem is, there is over 14,000 heavily fortified troops there. Needless to say, the Aussies were repulsed with heavy losses.

But hold on, it ain't over. Just as soon as the Rabaul attack is concluded does the Aussie brigade teleport back, and then joins in with the rest of the 7th division in attacking Buna. I know this to be true because the combat report listed the strength of the 7th division during the Buna attack, and it jived with the strength report prior to the attack, minus the losses incurred by the 25th at Rabaul.

I also know for a fact that the attack on Rabaul took place. The base hex was highlighted, I saw the green infantry icon there, and I received a combat report describing the location, odds and outcome. Unfortunately, I do not have a saved game file.

Can anyone explain to me what just happened?

Seen this. Don't have a save, but all of a sudden one of my units (Marine?) teleported to Rabaul and was crushed. They weren't attacking, they were defending though.

I have seen something similar to this. In my case, I marched a brigade of the 7th Division (the 18th I think) to Buna to retake it from the Japanese. After it got there, but before I attacked, a portion of the brigade teleported to Rabaul, where it was promptly slaughtered. The rest of the brigade was untouched and I proceeded to retake Buna. A few turns later, the part brigade turned up in Brisbane as a replacement.

I have not seen this happen again however.

We could use a save on this if anyone has one.

I have Marines teleporting from Tassafaronga to Munda. I'm pretty sure I have a save. Will this do?

I have seen units picked up by the AI's fast transports. This happens when the AI was going to pick up a unit that was since evicted by a friendly unit.

Part of the friendly unit gets picked up, and usually taken to Rabaul, where they are dropped off.

Then that's probably what happened here. There was a *lot* of AG traffic at Munda and some of them could have gotten through my patrols off Tassafaronga. They don't seem to be building a base so I suppose they're staging the evacuation from there.

Gary looked into the warping and thinks it was caused by the AI picking up enemy units. This was fixed in 1.40 so it should stop happening. Let us know if it happens again with 1.40.

My problem above with teleporting Marines happened in a game started with 1.40.
