Guardians planet did not edit out

I am on my first game using it to learn how I want to play. Since my territory surrounded the Guardians, I ran into the problem many have posted about with the Guardians constantly attacking me. Since I am way out-teched, I finally decided that what I was learning was to keep the Guardians at arms length but I wanted to continue learning so I deleted the Guardians with the editor. The empire went away but the planet still remains and the game started giving me all the annoying messages about encountering a new race. So I tried to invade to clean it up but the game crashes when I do.
