Auto-Convoy

All,
I started a thread to discuss my problems with the Auto-Convoy system some time ago in the gen'l discussion area of WitP-AE. I've tried all the helpful suggestions that were offered except "don't use it" and there still seems to be an issue.
Specifically, when I try to use Auto-Convoy for Babeldaob the AI repeatedly sends out small convoys of empty PB/AK/TK.
I've tried collecting supplies at both ends of the run, either/or, or not collecting at either base. Nothing seems to work. Possible bug?
Thanks,
Nate

So, are you a JFB?
I play exclusively AFB and to me the jury is still out on Automatic Convoy. I have learned some tricks that make it work better but I have never seen the problem you describe. I do occasionally have that problem on CS convoys but I do some weird things with those.
What version are you running?

DD,
Not a "fanboy" of either side, just trying to learn all the systems for PBEM games later.
I'm using the latest official patch.
Any help would be appreciated. It could very well be something I'm doing wrong as well as possibly a bug.
Thanks,
Nate

if i was gonna use the auto-convoy system, i'd ease into it slow. you've tried setting a base to AC - if it's not working for you, don't use it! i've only tried using it once, under an earlier beta, & abandoned it, it wasn't doing the job for me.
however i have had much better success w/ CS convoys, where you create a transport, cargo, or tanker TF, dock it, set it to 'load' whatever, then give it a destination. once those steps are complete, you can change it from 'human control' to 'CS convoy'. at which point a 'return cargo' button becomes active, and you can choose among its available options, which might include supplies, resources, fuel and/or oil.
you can add escorts to this convoy, & adjust its refuel options. but you've gotta be careful to keep the total TF tonnage to a size that can be docked at both its origin & destination ports. & you can't create multiple TFs on successive turns that result in 'port backlog' where a 2nd CS convoy arrives looking for dock space while the 1st one is still un/loading.

That's probably best suggestion you get, like it or not.
I've notice that Japan's logistic is not PITA as someone seem to think. CS convoys do most of the job. Just sent now and then big supply convoy to supply Truk, Babeldaob, Kwajalein and other naval bases. Then use smaller convoys to supply front line bases.
It's better to do it manually than let AI waste precious fuel. [;)]

i gather that's the thing, for IJ players? TF fuel use as a determinant for operations.
actually i can relate, i play the Allies vs. the IJ AI. & gave up my 1st GC attempt, 'cos i had wrung Cape Town empty of fuel after 2 months of play. a plenitude of supply at CT, & nfw to shift it to anywhere. you could call it 'a learning experience', you could also call it 'totally embarrassing'!
