Trying to figure out supply

I'm brand new to the wargaming hobby, and brand new to TOAW... and hoping someone can help me with a very specific question on supply:
I understand how supply propagates around theh map. What I don't understand is how the supply number on the map impacts my unit's supply.
For example, I am playing the Allies in the Kasserine 43 scenario:
I have a unit with 80% supply on a hex with supply of "10". The unit did not move recently (so no 33% penalty) and is not near to its HQ (so no 50% bonus). I would think that this means the unit's supply will grow from 80% to 80% + 10 = 90%. However, it only goes up to 84%. So, why does the supply level grow only by 4% and not 10%? Is this due to the formation supply distribution efficiency? If so, where can I see what the formation supply distribution efficiency is (I just want to see that everything adds up!).
Thanks in advance!
Andre

Supply that your unit will receive =
Hexsupply
* 2/3 (it's a constant)
* 3/2 if a cooperative HQ is adjacent
* 2/3 if the unit has moved
* 3/2 if a cooperative supply unit is adjacent
* formation supply efficiency (visible in 'formation report')
Can be lowered by interdiction and night turns

Andre,
have a look at the Tutorial '41 scenario I posted at the Gefechtsstand, including slides, for an overview of the basic TOAW mechanisms.

I'm a little confused (ok, I'm VERY confused) over this supply issue as well.
I'm tinkering with the Italy 43 scenario. Every thing was going fine supply wise until I abandoned my original start point as I pushed north to Rome. I captured a new anchorage/objective with the flag thingie and I have an unbroken LOC from there to my point troops, but they seem to be "starving to death".
My first Q is; What do these Supply Points look like and how do I ID them?
#2. Do we only get one Supply Point from which all goodies flow out to the troops?
TIA mates.

Andre,
it is pivotal to read the scenario description and the document the scenario designer supplied with it. There you can see where the supply points, events, etc. are. I also suggest to get the scenario viewer from Andy *see
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/a.edmiston/toawviewer.htm* and/or dump the scenario file as .txt. It also depends on what version, supply, etc. you are playing. Most pre-3.4 scenarios should be updated; especially the AD and MRPB settings *see
tm.asp?m=3045873*
For this scenario I'd suggest an AD of 9 and an MRPB of 3.

Thanks all - this is useful stuff!
Any thoughts on a good document that describes the mechanics in detail? Most of the beginners-guides I have seen try to explain the game in a simple way, which I suppose is good. But by glossing over some of the details, it just confuses me more! I'm looking for a 200 page document that describes it all in detail! Any recommendations?
Andre

Thanks again Herr Oberst! [&o]
Those noob docs are pure gold and already some of my personal fog has lifted.
I def need to remember to read the scenario notes BEFORE I dive in.
EDIT: The Viewer link is busted somewhere. I get the could not be found message.

You can also open the scenario in the editor and run a scenario dump. They are usually quite large, but once opened you can 'Ctrl-F' and search for 'Supply Points' in order to view them. Cut and Paste them into a new document for easy reference.

Tim,
email me and I will send the file(s). The link works fine here... perhaps the f*ds deny access to Royal British sites already?

I think we're both in the land of salo & vodka, da? Maybe Yano finally went over the edge?

Oh Gawd no! Teaching would take too much time away from TOAW. I'm a retired gentleman of leisure in Krym, living with my Hot Redhead and working on PR.
