Newbie Trying to find a WWII game or CW game.

I am looking for a computer game that is similar to the old Third Reich or Tobruk style game for the computer. I also am looking for a CW game that has the same style of play of various battles. I don't have alot of gaming experience but am looking for games that are detailed with historical accuracy but are not to time consuming to learn. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You're at the wrong website, go to battlefront.com, look up Strategic Command, there's a demo, try it first. Slitherine also has MH-Commander- Europe at War, Panzer Corps, and Time of Fury/Wrath, the last two accessible here, but the ATR mod you've mentioned is done by pzgndr(Bill Macon) using the SC platform and I must say very well done.

Well I agree that Strategic Command fits your post, but don't give up on Matrix Either, look for the below on the product page or store

Commander - Europe at War Gold

For a Tobruk style game, I'd go with Steel Panthers, it's a freebie download here.

HOI3 or Arsenal of Democracy

While fine games, these two may have a bit of an interface learning curve. The game play isn't difficult, adjusting to the interface may or may not present you with an additional challenge.

I'll second an earlier recommendation for Commander - Europe at War. Another you might want look into is Advanced Tactics Gold. There are several others in the matrix catalog that might fit your needs also.

Computer War in Europe - by Decision Games.

This is a good game!

A demo of the game can be downloaded. The demo includes the full manual.

http://www.decisiongames.com/wwii/europe/europe.htm

The game has that board game look and feel but it is not as board gamey as the screen shots make out.

The game has no AI. it is played by PBEM. You can have up to 3 players: Axis, Allies and Russians.

The game has a series of Scenarios and Campaigns.

The Scenarios and Campaigns are set in various places across the map and in various weather conditions

The difference between Scenarios and Campaigns is that Campaigns include production

The first screeny is from the Russian front

The boot of Italy.

The English channel

The final screen shot shows how tactical air warfare is resolved.

The player has a choice as to where he can move his available air points. The choices are:

Air Superiority
Ground Support
Air Sea interdiction
Transfer the points to another front

This is exactly the type of game that I am looking for however I am looking for one that has AI so that I can play against the computer instead of other players because of my time limitations. Is there any game maker ar games that have this? It seems that there are very few games that look like the old style board game but that you can play against the computer without involving e-mail or someone else playing against you on the same computer. Any suggestions?

I am looking for one that has AI

As SeaMonkey mentioned, my Advanced Third Reich mod for Strategic Command WWII Global Conflict GOLD is pretty good and has challenging AI scripted for both Axis and Allies for all campaigns (1939, 1941, 1942, 1944). You're welcome to download the files and review the pdf Design Notes at http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=314&func=fileinfo&id=1770
CEaW stinks, its a carbon copy of Strategic Command

CEAW has AI and with the Grand Strategy 2.0 mod is ok. The upcoming 2.1 version is pretty good. Stay tuned for that one.

SC is pretty good IMHO, *but* also has no stacking, so you're always more or less attacking frontally. Encirclement in a game like SC is pretty rare.
You might also take a look at Advanced Tactics Gold which has quite a few large WWII scenarios, it includes production and stacking. Deep penetration, cutting off supply lines and encirclements are much more important there than in SC. Although SC has nicer graphics. Choices choices...

There is a great game called Combat Command Matrix Edition.

And the AI is very good! As soon as the patch is released I will write a review. In the meantime see some scren shots below

The first is around Carentan at 2 different zoom levels

The other is in north africa - again 2 different zoom levels.

Ahhh yes, the ole "Danger! Forward", a wargame possessing superb mechanics on the operational/grand tactical scale, a very good suggestion, but due for a graphics update.

See....we're never completely satisfied and we shall "never withdraw" our expectations.[;)]
