Night Fighters

Is there any advantage given to P-61s over "day" aircraft when assigned a night mission (due to their radar)? Or is night fighting ability simply a matter or group experience? If so, should the VMFN groups start with experience higher than average (70)? Since there's no "native" P-61 groups, I figure the starting experience is moot for them.
