Limits on sending aircraft to reserve?

At the start of the 1941 campaign, I have been trying to send all of my Russian aircraft to reserve. In the commander's report, I can select all of my air groups. There is a "Reserve" function and when I click it only a small number of my aircraft seem to actually go into reserve.

Is there a limitation on how many airgroups you can send into reserve? Also, is the commander's report the only place you can send your air groups into reserve, or are there alternate approaches for accomplishing the same thing? Finally, does disbanding an airgroup send the aircraft to reserve, or are they simply scrapped?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Cheers,
Jason

no limit on the number you can send to reserve but frozen units will ot go
you can go to an airbase and transfer each unit
disbanding an airgroup will send aircraft to reserve but cost 1 pp

In addition to what cpt flam said, air units that have flown even 1%, or their airbase has been moved, will not go into reserve.

Thanks for the replies. I had moved the airbases prior to trying to send their aircraft to the NR. If you do it at the beginning of your turn, before you move anything or conduct actions that cause any aircraft to respond, you can move them to the NR without issue if they aren't frozen.

By the way, it's a bad idea to send all your airgroups to the reserve on mission 1.
Keep em flying even if you lose plenty.
Only send to the reserve groups which are in a pocket.

Why is this a bad idea? Is it better to let the Luftwaffe prune your obsolete aircraft and less skilled pilots rather than you trying to manage it yourself? Or are there other compelling reasons to keep your flyboys in action right from the get-go?

You don't want to give him anything for free. If you transfer everthing to reserve, he doesn't even need to fly escort and can freely bomb and resupply without any consideration. You don't want that, at all.
Sure, you'll lose planes, but with sufficient concentration, he'll lose some too. Besides, you want to start upgrading your best fighter-bomber regiments to Migs and Yaks as sson as you have some AP to spend. Not a whole lot, just 10 or 15 regiments in the right spot can really make a difference.

Good tip - thanks for pointing this out. As a result, I went in and upgraded my aircraft to MiGs and Yaks - I hadn't done that before.

The more I play, the more I realize how much I don't know :-) And I'm loving every minute of it!
