Calling Scenario Creators...

Ok, I have been looking through my "in limbo" map folder...and I have one map of Kelja Finland that Redleg would like to build a scenario on...which is way cool! :D

Now, are any of you familiar with the Soviet Offensive on the Don in 1943 against the Hungarian 2nd Army? I have a three page (size ten) map of the Don River area around where the Soviets had a bridgehead at Uryv (I have seen four different spellings of that town already in various resources.)...and some information that covers what happened historically.
The map is about 60 % done and I think it could get it into shape fairly quickly if need be. If one of you scenario designers ( Jess, Redleg, REMF, WB...etc.) would be interested let me know. I think it could be a very interesting battle if put together effectively...something beyond me...I'll stick to map making! :D

The Don river area is excellent.
Also, it would be nice to see some more stuff on the "lesser" Axis allies such as Hungarians.

I am a bit buried in other SPWAW commitments at the moment but I will be cheering from the sidelines.

Greetings from a hungarian!

Hi!

The destruction of the 2nd Hungarian army was a great disaster for the hungarians. Almost every family had a member there... About 160000 soldiers were killed , wounded, captured or MIA.

The main problem was the lack of anti-armor equipment, and the inefficient supply (no winter clothes, etc). The Hungarians were spread along 200 Km front line with very few equipment.

I am glad that you make this map and (hopefully) the scenario.

Artur.

thank you for the motivation to continue working on the map...if not the actual scenario. :)

From what information I can find printed in English it was a bitter and quite nasty battle...hard fought by the Hungarian soldiers who had to make do with very much less in the way of AT weaponry than their Wehrmacht counterparts. And to do so against a soviet offensive speardheaded by large numbers of Russian armored formations.

If you have any additional information about units, battle reports and other details please pass them on to me when you can. It would be much appreciated...and would bolster my resolve to perhaps build a scenario covering the battle.
