Landing on small islands or bases w/no port

Dear fellow gamers:

The game rulebook says I can land units anywhere, but when I tried to land early game reinforcements at Ndeni (near Espiritu Santo) the task force would not unload anything.[:@] At the same time, however, I was able to land a base force and combat units at Espiritu Santo itself without any problems. I do not understand!

Thanks,

Gary Jamison

Again not a bug. Please put these threads either in the main or War room.

Check for "do not unload option for TF"

Maybe you forbidden them from unloading

Not to mention mode plus some items like radar need a port or naval support at the base to unload. To land at small bases make sure to use LST or LC ships in a amphib or landing craft TF w/ unit in combat mode. You still may lose some unloading/loading at these type bases.

Bases with a port size less than 3 require the use of amphibious TF to unload. Basically all they are is jetty, being to small for transports TF to try up to unloaded. This is very important with dot bases ie those with no port or airbase. I think Ndeni is a dot base while Espiritu is a three at the start of the game. I make it arule of thumb to always send an amphibous TF to anything less than a three. We've all been there with that one.

Are you sure??

I've managed to unload at L1 ports in transport mode.

It can be very slow getting larger devices of the ships though.

An amphib TF will unload, but leave you open to things falling overboard.

No - they don't 'require' an amphib TF, but he's right that they sure benefit from one speed-wise.

I think to unload some devices like radar/certain AA/art/Mot support it either needs to be port size 2 or larger or an amphib tf or naval support at base hence why it might be best to use an amphib for all smaller ports

True, a slip. Only dot bases require an amphib TF full stop. Bases with ports 1 or 2 might depending upon what you are trying to unload. I.e. Vehicles, radar etc. This is why I always send an amphib TF to them. Note I have also had problems with an Amphib TF unloading at dot bases if the TF contains only xAP or xAK but this might be a bug.

Probably not a bug, depending on what was being unloaded. x-type ships do not have any serious landing craft built-in and are using ships' boats and the like. So when it comes to large items, like radar sets for just one example, they won't be able to unload unless additional help is available. Naval Support or Shore Parties at the port should do it. APA or AKA type ships or LS-type ships (LST, LSI, etc) in the same TF will also provide help.

Yeh, I thought that at the time which is why I didn't post it as one.
