ME check box - location editor

Post by treespider »

What is the "ME" check box in the scenario editor?

I presume that is for Monsoon Effect and possibly tied to the Supply CAP value...

Been awhile can someone explain. Thanks.

It's "Malarial Effect", as far as I know.

EDIT: It doesn't seem to be used for anything. None of the malarial pest holes have it ticked. If it was for "Monsoon", all of Burma would use it, and it doesn't.

Did some archive sleuthing and it is for Monsoon Effect...base needs box checked for effect to take place...probably affects a bunch of mods if not checked.

Malarial hexes are defined by the pwhexe.dat file - hex by hex - not in the regular location file. FYI

Joel (Blackhorse) did something on the ME switch about 6 months ago.

You might want to PM Joel and Andy on this. There is a “background” correspondence between ME and Supply Cap. It’s not intuitively obvious, and depends on a couple other factors, so PMing them would be useful. I am hesitant about saying what those factors are, for obvious reasons, so a PM is your best bet.

Well.

Another check box in front of my nose, and it never registered. So much for my powers of observation...

JWE, thank you for the clarification. Treespider, hope to hear what you find out.

As others have said it was how we crudely implemented a more rigourous approach to monsoon in game

There are two boxes in the editor

Supply Cap which determines the amount of supply a base can send or recieve each day so say a base with trails only may have a factor of 50

For each fort/3 /port or AF level this is increased by x1

And this determines the impact on these key bases of the amount of supply they can recieve or send.

Initially this approach was only used in Burma and North Australia as it was to fix the specific probelm of large stacks

I would probably had I had time applied it to China and New Guinea but we were limited on not wanting to break to much in patch 2

ME box if checked reduces the suppply cap by 50% and adds additional fatigue and reduced morale for all units in a base between May and October

Its not perfect but its the best and simplest approximation of the limitations of operating in Burma and the impact th monsoon has we could come up with

If I was doing it again

I would probably take the % impact of monsoon down to 25% just to reduce further the supplies available but thats because I am nasty and I would probably extend the supply cap concept to China and possible New Guinea as well

Thanks Andy. No worries.

I'm already working on creating a wonderful Chinese stew for Version 2 of my mod...Supply Caps will definitely be part of the mix.

The Supply Caps provide for adding more dotbases because with them you can limit the supply flow in a region. As discussesed in the "Modeling buildable Roads thread".

I probably will expand the use of the ME box to more of the bases in the Burma region even if they are not exactly in the geographic confines of the Monsoon area.

Thanks Andy. No worries.
+1

Much appreciate the explanation and back story. Helps a TON in understanding some of my observations in Burma.
