Incredible!! It must have been in a really unreachable spot to stay hidden all this time!

She's in relatively good shape.

Hopefully someone will want her, and the Egyptians are willing to give her up.

What you can see there is in good condition, however it is far from intact - much of the lower structure is torn away, including some of the lower fittings in the engine bay, the undercarriage and the lower nose area, including probably the wing centre section...

It is probably restorable to 'museum display' level*, but I'm not optimistic that it would be feasible to rebuild her to a flying condition without replacing most of the structure..

*In fact Duxford(?) has a Bf109E displayed in a 'crash-landed' condition as an exhibit, and there is an SM79 displayed 'as-found' somewhere in Italy (IIRC)

"Relatively" does not imply she'll ever fly again, only that she's in "relatively" good shape after a crash landing in semi-rocky terrain and spending approx. 70 yrs. in the sand-blasting and baking "booths", so to speak. [8|]

"Intact" has a fairly specific meaning.

Recoverable, force landed, well preserved... all more appropriate terms for the condition IMO.

There is some speculation that this is an early "HS-B" serial, replaced later by a later marque P40 - will be interesting to see what the loss report says about the circumstances of loss, and the fate of the pilot.

Where's the word "intact" in any of these posts? Even the clip(s) have the title "Crush Airplane". [:(]

Great find!

The airforce will have a record of who last flew it. I wonder what became of him?

Yeah it's an amazing very rare find, *but* I do wonder whatever happened to the pilot?
