It's good to be back, how are you fine gentlemen today?
I'm going to be playing two GCs as sovs, this is the first one. My last AAR was against ComradeP, but we quit it due to RL issues and the game was very unbalanced at the time.
It's been a while so expect many mistakes on my part, should be fun.
I've invited bigbaba to post a message, best of luck to him, may we have a long and dynamic game.

And welcome to amateur hour. As I said before its been a long time. I'm having difficulty evacuating factores. I have toggled industry display and rail mode, I click on top right name of the factories but then I don't have the blue arrows allowing me to relocate factories. Is there some turn 1 prohibition to factory evacuation? Or am I forgetting to do something?

Also do not evacuate HI, its not worth and costs tons of rail capacity.

Well here are Axis turn 1 moves, notice the extensive use of regiments down south.

Well, that went better than I'd guessed. All pockets were resupplied. About 70% of the North was evacuated by sea. Two succesful counterattacks against panzer regiments.
I have roughly 50 APs left, and intend to use them to disband stuff. Any suggestions? Trying not to spend too many AP points on CC as I'll need it latter for corps etc.

Would be helpful going forward to toggle control and forts on...looks like he left a lot of potential pockets open in the South so that should be good for you.

Regarding Heavy Industry: I evacuated a few (4?) because...they do not matter much with the current patch..but what if they do become more important in a future one? A GC game lasts at least a year and one never knows

.
Let's call it insurance...

Also, do not disband too many Corps HQs, they are manageable and they go away by themselves by turn 5-6. Use the APs to replace the worst Front and Air leaders.

Axis progress on turn 1 in the north looks a little disappointing; Riga was taken but not much else near the Daugava river. May not mean that much in the long term, who knows.

Turn 2:
In the North the entire Panzer group is isolated. I've yet to see a deep penetration doctrine work for the Axis, btw.

In the Center I'm the weakest, the panzers have reached (but not crossed the Dnepr. Minsk is resupplied but I can't quite manage to get the rest of the pocket opened (10 miles... grr).

In the South there is no progress as the pocket is resealed. I came within one failed counterattack of relieving the pocket, sent one romanian division running away and found an unprotected RR team with a marauding sec regiment. Overall this is the strongest sector. Notice reserves building a line on the Dnepr.

And that's game, unfortunately. Bigbaba resigned on turn 3, citing the encirclement of Panzergroup 1. Happens.

Ah, I wouldn't be so harsh. With the Axis you're always on a knifes edge. Push too hard, get cut off. Push too soft, you're damning yourself. Push too wide you're dispersing your forces and lacking focus. Push too narrow and you're not exploiting enough or not taking enough territory. The game (as was history) punishes Axis mistakes more harshly than Soviet ones.

Perhaps this part of the game works like it should. You leave a 60 mile gap between the back end of your spearhead and the front of your infantry shuffling forward to support them; is it supposed to be safe?

Normally, it is not a problem for the Axis to either leave flank protection or make sure that you leave broad enough swathes of flipped territory that the odd Soviet division will not cause cut off spearheads. I would say that the Axis player appears to have been sloppy with his flank protection in this game. But as has been pointed out above, as the Axis, you can't really afford any mistakes, while as the Soviet, you can survive mistakes.

Is that necessarily bad game design, or just actual circumstances of the war? ( if need be this can moved to some other thread in a different section, in the case of AAR highjacking [:D] )

I wouldn't say it's bad design, it is the way it is (and was). And maybe I was a bit categorical, you can survive some mistakes as the axis, and as the Soviets, big mistakes will damn you, but in general, I think the game is more forgiving when you are playing the Soviets.
