Multi player lobby and joining in progress games

I saw a game in progress and noticed that I could select join game even though it had started. The button was not grayed out as i believe it should be if you really can't join and observe. After I selected the button it reported "joining" for a few minutes. Never kicked me out, yet also never actually joined the game. My suggestion would be to disable the join button once games are in progress.

On the other hand, is there any option to rejoin a game where you have lost connection?
I tried to, but finally we had to cancel the game, as my opponent couldn't find a way to save it and I couldn't get back.

Hm, it should have been possible to save the game - it should automatically save at the end of every turn as well. Was this during Turn 1?

No, it was turn 3, I think.
We didn't remember about the autosave, we can check that later, but maybe it's just easier to start all over again - as we did [:)].
We saved another game later and it worked ok, so we wondered if both players need to be connected for the "save" to work.

Multiplayer save games only work easily when both players are connected. When you save a game in multiplayer it creates an identical file on both machines, and it is necessary for both machines to have this file when you are loading a save game later.
If you save a game in multiplayer when only one player is connect, you'll have to send the other player a copy of the save game file, and he'll have to copy that file into his (My)Documents/Western Civilization Software/Conflict of Heroes - Awakening the Bear/Save/Multiplayer folder before you can use it to restore a save game.
At some point down the road I'd like to add support for transferring save files in-game, so that if the host player tries to load a save game that the other player doesn't have the game can transfer the file to the other player and continue the load process. The server isn't set up very well to do this right now, however, as it expects the packets sent between players to be fairly small.
