Greetings from a newbe poster! I have two questions I would like answered if at all possible. 1) What was the first reliable breech loading cannon ever produced? (Year as well if possible). 2) Are their any good Civil War artillery sites out there? TIA

Well, couple books and websites mentioned that the first reliable breechloader was manufactured by Krupp in 1849. I didn't find any details about this gun, at least not yet
Other breech loading systems were invented by Major Cavalli in 1845 and Wahrendorff in 1846. Then the Armstrong system from 1854
But it's also said that the French 75mm gun from 1897 was the first *well working* modern breechloader.

It should be pointed out that the French were still using the 75mm(1897)right up until June 1940!A very well working gun indeed!
