Game crashes during AI turn when AI captures a base

Hiya,

I´m fairly new to WITP AE, I´m playing the December 7 full campaign (latest patch 1108r9, allied side vs. the AI), and I´m now at mid-February 1942. My problem is that during the AI turn the game crashes just after Japan has captured the base "Balikpapan" on Borneo. I tried to hop one or two days back already, but the effect is still the same: The game crashes as soon as the base is captured.

Any ideas what I can do in this situation? Is there any kind of editor for the savegame files?

Zip up the save and attach to a post here - only zip files can be attached.

I don't see anything wrong. It ran correctly.
However, a 'news' report is read at the point of capture.
I wonder if that might be the issue.

Can you try disabling the 'news' and see if it works. They are located in the Sounds folder. Rename it to something else.

If that fixes it, then you must some issue with the DirectX sound or some sound codecs.

Ah,

you mean these audio "news reports" annoucing major stuff (sinking a CV f.e.)? This might indeed be the case. I remember that I updated my Windows codecs a few days ago, and I also remember another Matrix Game (slitherine) giving me audio problems after the update too.

Could you tell me exactly WHICH codec is needed to replay the audio? I´ll try disabling news sounds in the meantime.

Edit: Renaming the news sounds folder prevented the crash. It´s almost 100% sure a codecs issue.

Not sure as 'sounds' is not more usual forte.[:D]

Someone else might be able to point to which one generally upsets these things.
