I could use some advice here.

I'm planning my Luzon invasion and am torn between two landing sites - Lingayen or Batangas? Lingayen offers a quicker route to Clark, but Batangas allows a quicker route to Manila. As ny59giants pointed out to me in my thread in the AAR forum, with stacking limits in effect, Manila is the prime defensive location for the allies. If I can take that away, maybe Luzon will fall a bit quicker. Also, Batangas doesn't have any Long Toms in place like Lingayen does.

Any ideas?

Are you using the extended map?

Just curious as I have been able to in the past to isolate a few units and block them entering Bataan. Looking at the extended map, I can see how it now gives the Allied player another route of escape.

Go for both Lingayen and Iba. Taking Iba will kill off a P-40 group and put you at the doorstep of Clark. From Lingayen, you can send a small unit back up the coast.

That's why I like the extended map, a bit more realistic!

Yes I am.

Can you post a screenshot with your prospective invasion hexes? I'm unfamiliar with the extended map.

Thanks, that's helpful.

Vigan-Lingayan-Clark is fine, IMO. You may consider paradropping into an unoccupied rail hex to cut off retreat towards Clark/Manila if you can.

I agree with the aforementioned preference for Iba in your southern pincer, if you're going to have a southern pincer per se. From Iba, walk it up to Batangas. This will better allow you to hold the narrow neck across the southern peninsula of Luzon.

I would be uneasy parking a vast amphibious assault TF just across the mouth of Manila harbor on turn 2. "Escorting" combat ships are notoriously porous in their defense. A few DMS or DDs from Manila (or the Hong Kong Britishers) could get in amidst your amphibious TF and cause some problems. Theoretically, Boise could be on site by turn 2 also, no? It would be a tempting target.

Perhaps if you wanted a southern pincer, ensure that Allied shipping has well and truly cleared off? Turn 2 at Iba/Batangas may be too far too fast-too stretched out.
