Saw a rocket attack this morning for the first time.....

Achtung Panzer:Operation Star is an Eastern Front wargame with solid graphics and sprawling battlefields that really emphasize the scope of WWII tank combat. The gameplay is a remarkably realistic turn-based and real-time operational/tactical hybrid wargame that continues the series begun by the acclaimed Achtung Panzer: Kharkov 1943.

Saw a rocket attack this morning for the first time.....

Post by GBS »

It was at night in the first battle as axis playing K-P. It had to be rockets. They came looping in and left a bit of a trail in the sky. They impacted rather randomly unlike artillery which have more compact impact zones. Pretty awesome. I had no idea that rockets were in the game.

Yes, I saw the same thing in the same battle. I haven't played as Soviets yet... More random, but more intense than artillery fire.

I was wondering if the dreaded Stalin organ(Katyusha rocket launcher) was represented in this game in the the off map artillery support.Does anybody know if I could access this support for quick battles and where to look for it in the QB Order of Battle?

Since it happens on the first turn, it might be something that the scenario designer specifies...

Bummer [:@] I would have liked to have been able to incorporate this feature into some of my quick battles.

Heck I'm still waiting to see a airplane!

he could command a regiment.

Still no airplanes. Had some biplanes take out a tiger with a direct hit. Playing as the Russians yesterday some German planes bombed the crap out of my troops in the tree, nice watching the trees explode and get shredded. Had some screens until I re installed again.

Strange. I've loads of Axis aircraft available, at least in the original game and DLCs.

Are you sure you are checking your units to find spotters with available airstrikes?

Yeah rockets are not very accurate, but once they hit something... the horror, the horror! [X(]

I wish there were more chances for air strikes too. Sometimes I go whole operations without seeing a single aircraft or having a spotter for airstrikes. Maybe something is bugged with my game?

Aircraft calling wasn't regular in APK43 but in APOS it's damn right rare. I still haven't had a unit be able to call in an Air attack yet. ACtaully I've had units with the little plane symbol but no way to call them.

What do spotters look like? Ive played quite a bit and have never seen any airstrikes.

Also, can one use spotters in QB's?

It is a bit strange that a machine gun crew is nominated as a plane spotter rather than the Commander or a specialist liaison officer. However, I have been able to call in a number of airstrikes, as shown in my walkthrough threads.

I find that strange also.I always figured that they(Arty and air spotters) would be attachments to the platoon not replacements.Sometimes I just add a whole new platoon to the mix in QB and replace them all with specialist-air and arty spotters ,cmdr, sniper and engineer squad and dole them out to the other platoons as attachments from battalion HQ.

You have to pick the commander of the platoon I think. Anyway they have either a plane or bomb icon on the unit symbol in the tactical game in the right hand corner.

Also you will find very few reinforcement in the reinforcement panel usually you can change the ones in reserve. Especially in the DLC campaigns.

Oh remember at the end of a turn you can go to you squads and click on the amount of men and it will replace some casualties. Even if it has no actual reinforcements in the side panel.

Most battles usually have at least one Platoon commander who can call in Arty as a spotter. You don't need another spotter unit.

I didn't know that. Testing now...
