Post patch. If they aren't going to fire a shot on the surface, why do they keep sticking their heads up for an attack in the sub screen? All this against unescorted transports even.

Message "sub attacking on surface" pops up, and then nothing.

Any reported surface attacks in 1.3?

Yup. I've even had an I-boat gun the hell out of a transport and launch torpedoes at the same time, with lethal effect.

I'm "micromanaging" my subs and sending them out in groups of at least two as an experiment. It's working pretty well so far. I used to let the computer run my subs, but was unsatisfied with the results.

Yep I see them comming to the surface and taking out barges with their deck guns.

I have not seen a single sucesful Sub Surface attack in 4 wks of game time. Before the 1.3 patch I was killing barges all the time. I wonder if it has to do with save game vs new game.

I've also seen Jap carriers attack with no fighters on cap or escort, when I re-loaded the game as Jap human player I saw all of the fighters on the Jap carriers set to training?

I manage surface sub attacks. Have parked myself in Rabaul and probably end up lobbing a few shels at a barge every 2-3 turns. Still have not attacked anything larger than a destroyer though...

yep I micro my subs too. When I let the AI handle them they always seemed to be in transit between Noumea and Truk when there's good hunting much closer to home. I still send boats to Truk from time to time just to mix things up.

I like the wolf-pack concept a lot. It seems to be effective and it's easier to manage.

Subs now seem (with 1.3) not to use their deck guns when attacking escorted convoys (if they see a destroyer, they duck and run).
