Remove all Unit Portraits

THIS FEATURE IS NOW INCLUDED IN MY UNIT GRAPHICS MOD. YOU DO NOT NEED TO DOWNLOAD SEPARATELY UNLESS YOU ONLY WANT TO REMOVE THE PORTRAITS.

OK, I never did take to the portraits and prefer to just see the units images on my screen, as per this example.

Unzip the contents of this folder (https://dl.dropbox.com/u/29184871/portraits.zip) into your "C:\Matrix Games\Decisive Campaigns Case Blue\graphics\DC2\portraits" folder and overwrite the files already there to get this effect.

Always backup your files first.

The image cards in the "unit troops" tab. His mod removes the foreground soldier portrait....at least that is what it looks like :)

Oh, thank you! I really disliked those portraits; they seemed cartoonish and nearly silly. If I'd seen how easy it was to get rid of them I'd have done it myself.

Best,

Tim

Exactly - I took away the faces that normally stare at you in front of the unit boxes (bottom of the screen).

Yes, the portraits look cartoonish but, before removing them, one should be reminded that they serve a purpose: showing what kind of troops man that particular subunit (Heer, Luftwaffe, Waffen SS, ordinary riflemen, Guards etc.).
But I guess that this particular piece of info is also given by the counters' colours.

Yes, I find that I already know what kind of unit I am selecting from the color on the main map... It's a matter of personal taste, of course, but the Wehrmacht soldier portrait in particular was annoying me...

Today I noticed that there is also a 'national' icon on the unit for each of the different manpower types (Heer, Luftwaffe, Waffen SS, ordinary riflemen, Guards)

Which icon do you mean by that pls? Just maybe not seeing it properly...

Next to the unit name (Infantry, PAK, etc.) you see a German Cross, Soviet Star, etc? Well, if the unit is SS, you get an SS icon there, if Navy, a Navy icon...

Ahhh yes, of course... I was not sure you refer to these and checked the counters themselves :)

Redmarkus -- is there a way to mod the "scale" of the unit pictures? Not a big thing, but the scale seems off on several of these, for example the 75MM LEIG is massive, just way too big... as well as the T-70 and T-60 pix. Others seem too small, like the 76MM ATG.

Moddable?

100% moddable. If you want to try this yourself, take the following actions:

1. Locate the file folder C:\Matrix Games\Decisive Campaigns Case Blue\graphics\DC2\Eskubi.

2. Copy the whole Eskubi folder and save it as a backup somewhere.

3. Make a second copy and put it inside your Mods in progress folder (which you need to create somewhere outside the game folders, say on your desktop). You are now ready to experiment inside this mods folder.

4. If you don't have it (or an equivalent) download and install Paint.Net (free)

5. Open the first image you want to mod inside your Mods/Eskubi folder in Paint.net

6. Go Select All (I use the CTRL+A shortcut), then cut all (CTRL+X)

7. Now go CTRL+SHIFT+V or choose 'Paste into new layer' from the menu. Your image is now held in a layer above the background and can be re sized or edited without affecting the size of the background.

8. Hold down CTRL and then use the little markers on the corners of this new layer to drag the image to the dimensions you want. CTRL keeps the ratio of the sides consistent.

9. When happy select Save As and save the image as a .PNG. Say 'Yes' to flatten the image and 'Yes' to overwrite the old version.

You now have your re-sized unit. You can either paste the modded image directly into your C:\Matrix Games\Decisive Campaigns Case Blue\graphics\DC2\Eskubi folder and overwrite the original (you do have a backup, right?) or create a JSGME folder and load it that way.

Share the results here and I'll add them to the main mod as well.

I have nothing against the portraits except that they are too big.

Would it be possible to shrink the portrait to 75% or maybe 50% of it's current size?

I think they were modded that way in DC 1...

Cheers,

Easy to do. Remind me in a month!

You need to place the folder 'Portraits' inside your graphics/DC2 folder
