Sorry if this has been asked before, but I have not found an explanation for the OnMap Weather Symbols in TOAW 3.4.
What do they stand for?

The level of cloud coverage and precipitation.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Ok, but how does the big dark cloud differ from the small one?
And more important: What is their effect in the game? I asume they effect each hex where they appear.
Is that big, black, rain cloud worse then the small, grey rain?
How much?
Any concrete figures out there?
Terry

The severity; the big clouds are storms and the black big one a b*gger of a heavy thunderstorm. Try flying in those conditions or watch the terrain chance to mud :)

P.S. Bob *below* got the 100% answer. And yeah, I tried to locate the info in the manual, apparently to no avail.

The puffy clouds make the hex Overcast. The thin clouds make the hex Hazy. No cloud means the hex is Clear.

The precipitation is rain for the dark version, snow for the white version (temperature determines which is shown). And there is a version without precipitation.

Overcast and hazy conditions affect air attack strengths, and recon from peak hexes. Precipitation can cause snow or mud to occur on the ground.

Ahhh. that makes it more clear.
Any idea what the numeric effect is in the game?
For example:
How much do Hazy conditions lower the Mountain Peak visibility?

Visibility is a value based upon the combination of weather x lighting: clear/hazy/overcast x day/mixed/night. Clear is 1, hazy is .66, and overcast is .33. Day is 1, mixed is .66, and night is .33. So attacking an overcast hex at night would be done at strength x .11. (Note that Mixed visibility occurs on all turns of full-day or longer).

Overcast blocks recon from peak hexes. Clear allows it (to 40km). I don't remember about hazy. Do a test and see.

It's not in the manual, but it's come up in 3.5 work.

Does that combat modifier only affect Air Combat or also ground assaults?

Air bombardments are affected. Ground combat is not.

Not quite. Anti-Armor combat is.

Here's the other graphic. Both of these should probably say 'snow' instead of 'rain' for the 'frozen' ones.

Just checked: Hazy blocks recon from peak hexes as well.
