Soviet AI *very* hesitant to use arty bombardment

I have to say I'm finding the AI in Case Blue, as was the case in Warsaw to Paris, rather gun-shy when it comes to launching counterattacks. I often go multiple turns in a row when the AI, on its turn, doesn't launch a single attack against me. As with WtP, the AI is quite good at thwarting progress and putting up solid lines of defense, but it very seldom actually *attacks* you. I'm playing on Normal/Slowest.

Especially glaring, in my view, is that the Soviet AI does nothing to leverage its *enormous* advantage in artillery. It has these mega stacks of artillery that just sit behind the front line. I keep thinking as I make moves, "if the AI wanted to, it could probably obliterate this poorly-entrenched regiment," but I find I never really have to worry about it. It seems the AI almost exclusively uses arty for counter-battery.

I noticed this.. also another ai problem especially when defending in case blue, is it puts too many units on the front line, and doesnt hold enough reserves. But by far the biggest problem with the ai , imo, is how it instantly exploits any holes in your line, even if its a suicide run, the ai will basically pocket itself for you. It owuld be nice if the ai was more hesitant to move units though your lines unless it recognized it has overwhelming force to effect the breakthrough.

Finally I dont like the way the ai always hugs your lines,.. even when there is a much better spot to defend just a hex or two back, the ai should recognize when to give up some ground, especially when its outnumbered.

Noting all feedback on the AI. Its appreciated. Being cautious with artillery however works quite well in combination with the stockpiles. Eventually i want to improve the AI further however. The hugging of frontlines is something i really eventually like to change, but it requires a completely different way of thinking for the AI.

best,
Vic

Hmmm. I see plenty of bombardments and some counter attacks (between 1 and 4 each turn) but I haven't gone past 10 turns yet...

I see about the same as redmarkus -- several bombardments and attacks a turn. But I'm only on turn 4, heh. So far it seems reasonable to me. The AI attacks me where I fear it will -- where I am weakest.

I don't mind the "hugging the frontlines" either. If you decide to change the AI, I hope you'll give it a couple options rather than deleting its current approach altogether, because what it's doing now makes for an interesting experience. So far, anyway.
