Ok, the operations already covered by the game include;

Ardennes Offensive
Market Garden
Marita and Early East Mediterranean (Greece, Crete, Malta)

Upcoming games include;

East Front game (Unknown which operation or part of the theatre?)
France 1940

So, if you could choose a front or operation for a CO game, which would it be?

Considering what the current and soon to be games already cover, I would put a vote in for the following Operations;

Malaya 41/42: Japanese assault on Malaya and Singapore. Plenty of operational warfare, outflanking movements and tactics to be had. Considering the Commonwealth forces could have won this with better leadership, it really would fit the bill. Perfect unit size too.

Africa: the Western Desert battles, Vichy Syria battles, East Africa battles, and of course Algeria/Tunisia. Plenty of maneuvre warfare here, with many types of varying terrain across different areas, providing different challenges for each.

Those would be my two favourite picks of the bunch.

A "Defend the Reich" operation!

WWI stuff. Battle of Tannenberg, Battle of Marne, Battle of Verdun, Cambrai, Kaisershalcht, 100 day offecnsive...

If you could successfully put together a malaya option (jungles/swamp/beach landings/supply drops you could probably put together a New Guinea campaign and a few of island campaigns ?

...........and probably Nth Africa - given COA already has a few Nth African scenarios........

Yes, but you would need the estabs, of which there are few. You would have some for the Australians (from COTA) and British, no Indian army though, or Malay. None for the Japs either. God knows what other additions would be needed for the code for Far East conditions.

It is a pity because the Malaya campaign is perfect for this engine. Plenty of maneuvering, breakthroughs, defence lines and opportunities for counter attacks. I still remember making 'Malaya' and 'Singapore' scenarios on the ancient SSG 'Battlefront' system 20 odd years ago. That was a hell of a lot easier to mod than these games though!

East Front game (Unknown which operation or part of the theatre?)

Post-Stalingrad (after the Russians had finished the encirclement of the 6th Army), the battles/encounters along the Chir river, depicted events may be the battles/encounters from December 1942 to February 1943.

Plenty of mobile operations, Russian inf coming out of nowhere (in groups, to some extent on foot, but also motorized [the Russians had a lack of transports at the time, though], popping up behind German lines or overrunning the thinly manned German lines (held by INF, in the main). Still, Russian coordination was poor.

If I am not mistaken, with Russian Inf's key moves, the Russians failed to follow the 2nd part of the maxime "march devided and fight concentrated", but even the mechanized or armored (rather) concentrated elements of the Russian Tank Corps got mopped up by say 1 and a half division, means by the 11th Panzer Division aided by few other elements, as well as some air support (IF the weather was favourable), and being assisted by German INF at the German defensive positions along the front. Also, the Germans were lucky locally, eg. when encountering Russian Mot. Inf (either at or on the way to Sowchos 79), crushing them completely, or where they attacked a Russian tank unit from the rear (as the Russians thought the German elements would be Russian tanks following).

Whatsoever, the German Firebrigade involved weakened the Russian 5th Tank Army pretty much, almost took a Russian Tank Corps (IIRC) out of the fight and deeply penetrated territory held by the Russians, subsequently ... despite the successful deflection, the Germans had barely avoided a collapse of the Chir river front.

Question: I'm not sure, but did the majority of the Russian Tank Corps involved have Valentine tanks?

I always thought the Valentines were mainly used during the first Kharkov offensive in early '42.

Not sure how many of them were on the Eastern front though, so there may have been a number of them in later battles. You are probably correct though, as they were still using Matilda II tanks during the 2nd battle for Kharkov (early '43), and Valentines were an upgrade on the Matilda.

It'd be interesting to see some scenarios based on the battles fought in the bend of the Don during the late summer of 1942, if not in the base game then perhaps in an add-on (or mod).
