One of the 1st things I tried in ship design was putting gas extractors on my scouts to see if they could fuel themselves up while far from my borders. they cant.

Is it possible to mod in a component that would let your ships harvest gas for fuel directly?

Another idea for some depth to the game would be a fuel synthesiser that could work with energy collectors to just straight up make fuel for a stars energy. obviously if this was put in it would be much more costly then just harvesting.

Modding components is not possible.

There is a energy-to-fuel converter available high up the tech-tree, but it's huge.
