Surrealistic Ruins Mod
I just wanted to share with you planet's ruins mod I use. I didn't enjoy vanilla's "earth" based images of ruins very much, so I replaced them with amazing and myserious paintings of Polish artist Zdzisław Beksiński, which I found in internet. Concerning the game's atmosphere I feel these images look much better than original ones.
I didn't get his permission (as he already has passed away) so please let me know if I violate any copyrights here by uploading this mod.
Installation
Just unzip the archive into your "Distant Worlds\images\environment\ruins" folder.
(Before replacing you may want to backup original files)

I used some Galciv2 improvement icons and it works really well for ruins.

For some strange reason I can't unpack ruins number 3, 7 and 10. Would you perhaps consider packing and uploading it anew? [:)]

Strange, I just downloaded and unpacked it myself. Everything was fine.
Maybe the problem is that I used 7zip with LZMA method?
OK, please try another one with Deflate compression algorithm.

In regards to Theluin's previous post,
I as well could not insert 3, 7 and 10 but with the new download you offered the problem is resolved.

Bump for the new players if they want to change something small.
The art really stands out and simple to copy.
Thanks again Martian.

These ruins still look earthlike to me, but with a lot more graphical flare. But opposed to the previous once a clear improvement.
Though I know you do not own the Copyright to any of these pictures and reshaping them is not considered a permutation to obtain a passive copyright I still want to ask you if I can include them as a standard in my GW II mod.

Sure!
As long as it helps anyone to enjoy more this already great game I have no objection for people to freely use these images in their mods.
