Trouble with SPWaW 7.1

I'm running SPWaW 7.1 on a 300 MHz Compaq Presario with 96 MB of RAM and an 8 MB Savage4 GT video card. The problem I'm having is that whenever I play a solitaire scenario, the game lets me play my first turn, then the computer plays its turn, then *blink*, the game dumps me back to the desktop. There are no error messages or any other signs that anything has gone wrong.

I've tried reinstalling the game several times, and I have the same problems each time, even under older versions of SPWaw (5.0, 6.0, 7.0). The curious thing is that I have no problem playing the solitaire campaigns or running hotseat scenarios.

Has anyone run across this problem before, and if so, what can I do to fix it? I love the campaigns, but I am eager to test my mettle against the scenarios as well. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Is it the same scenario, or all of them because you may be playing an old scenario that wasn't properly updated to 7.1 standards. What operating system are you using? What version of DirectX do you have installed. How did you get to version 7.1 upgrades from older version or full install of 7.1. The reason I ask is if you had problems back from 5.0 you may have an audio sound problem. After SPWAW 5.x Matrix released a stereo audio upgrade patch that replaces many of the sounds of SPWAW with newer sounds redone in a more standardized stereo format, because many sound were done in formats that were unnatural to some sound cards.

I've had this problem with all of the scenarios which I have checked (about 20 or so). I am running Windows 98, and DirectX 6 (I think). I installed SPWAW 6.0 on my machine and applied the 7.1 upgrade patch, but the problem was present in both versions. I don't think that my sound card is the problem, because I have been playing with all sounds switched off under the Preferences menu.

Ummm...DirectX 6 ?

The game requirement is 6.1 or later..maybe you should get the latest DX and see if it helps.

I'm not at my home computer right now, so I am just guessing as to my DirectX version. I will check that when I get home however, and I will make sure that I do have the latest version installed.

Please note that I have no problem running campaigns or hot-seat scenarios, so it seems unlikely that DirectX would be to blame, as that should affect everything, not just solitaire scenarios.

I'm not saying it's a problem with your sound card I'm saying I think it's due to old outdated sounds in SPWAW which have caused problem in the past with some sound card chip sets. Here is a link to the Updated SPWAW Stereo sounds try it and see if it helps. The file is about 194mb in size so be patient.
