I can see this game is going to lead me to read up more on the civil war.All i have really read are the time life set and Cattons 3 set volume. What I'd like to read is books about battles ,with maps. Tactics and strategy. So fire away your recommendations please.

Look up the author Sears. He had done some good work on Chancellorsville, Antietam, and Gettysburg. He has done more than this. His Chancellorsville is excellent.

Noah Andre Trudeau has done some good work including Gettysburg.

Gordon C. Rhea wrote 4 good books beginning with the Battle of the Wilderness.

Coddington's Gettysburg is good.

Author McPherson(sp) a lot of people like him.

There is your start. I like Sears and Rhea the best.

I bought "The Killer Angels" audiobook(mp3) from barnesandnoble.com the other day and if possible its better than when I read the book over a decade ago.

You might also want to check out 'BATTLE IN THE CIVIL WAR,GENERALSHIP AND TACTICS IN AMERICA 1861-65 by Paddy Griffith..Its a Excellent Book with LOTS of useful INFO about Tactics,Command and Control,Weapons,Formations.Etc..Etc

Nice...I Bought the book at the Chickamauga Battlefield Vistor Center When i was Reenacting...One of the Best books in my Civil War collection...Will be Picking up this Game and the Expensions Soon...Have Waited for this since SPI put out their Regimental Civil War Board Games...Keep up the GOOD WORK

Harry W Phanz is the best author to ever cover the subject of Gettysburg.

I have all of Phanzs' books. If you want a real good understanding of the battle they are a must, but I wouldn't start with them. I would start with Sears or Trudeau. But that is just me.

Phanz is great but I echo the other posters info, its easy to get lost in his books.

Civil War Generalship: The Art Of Command by W. J. Wood. A great study of Civil war generalship.
