Movie soundtracks that hit you right there.

I'm sitting here reading posts and have my music playing on random and up pops the end titles from "Letters From Iwo Jima" and I'm struck by how moving the music is. Listening, I sit here and picture many of the images from the movie and find myself reflecting on how awful that must have been. The music is rather haunting.
Anyone care to share other music from movies that tugs your heart strings somewhat or puts you in a reflective mood?

well it's part of the art, that a movie's music puts you into the frame. a friend of mine was denouncing movies as 'manipulative art', but i was all "that's the point, innit?"
i just lately saw 'Argo' w/ my twin-sister, we were both digging on the costumes, hair-styles, even the eye-glasses were shouting "1980!" & of course, the sound-track tunes were putting us right there.
my fave movie music has gotta be from Kubrick's "2001", esp. as the Pan-Am shuttle makes rendezvous w/ the space station to the tune of Strauss' "Blue Danube" waltz.

For me, Morricone's soundtrack for "Once Upon a Time in the West" is the best soundtrack of all times.

There are just sooooo many. Some individual pieces from soundtracks that stick out in the memory (well I have them on my IPOD*) and in no particular order:
War Films (or similar)
1 Battle of Britain Suite VI Epilogue - Battle of Britain (Goodwin)
2 Adagio in G Minor - Gallipoli (Albinoni)
3 Almost the entire soundtrack - Operation Daybreak (Hentschel)*. Sadly this music is not available anymore as the recording was lost and the composer says it’s uneconomical to re-record. Crazy, crazy decision……
4 Theme from Schindler's List - Schindler's List (Williams)
5 Honor Him and Now we Are Free - Gladiator (Fowler and others)
6 Opening and Closing Themes - Mutiny on the Bounty (1980's version) (Vangelis)
7 Fantasia On a Theme of Thomas Tallis (Excerpt) - Master And Commander (Not sure)
8 For the Love of a Princess - Braveheart (please note I have NEVER watched that pile of $%^&) (Not Sure)

So many. My favorite is the soundtrack to Bridge at Remagen.
I also love the soundtrack to a 1979 movie called The Final Countdown.
Pretty much the entire soundtrack to the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.

Pan-Am shuttle is beautiful, but it also makes me miss Pan-Am as well as reflect on the temporary nature of things. If you had told people in 1968 that Pan-Am would be gone before 2001 they would have said you were nuts.
As for music of my teens, the first two minutes of "Dazed and Confused" is awesome. The hot rod slowly cruising around the school parking lot as Aerosmith's "Sweet Emotion" slowly builds, that amazing bass line playing over the credits, and then the first riff blasting out over the slash of orange day-glo paint and the bright, hopeful sunshine of the last day of school when the world was new, girls were bouncy, and gas was oh so cheap.

I really enjoy Gladiator, King Arthur, and Braveheart's soundtracks.
