Stand Alone ?

I uninstalled all the GB stuff and the DRM I couldn't stand :)

Installed the CV copy and can't activate it at all. No short cut or nothing. All I have is Base/docs/Mods.....Any ideas. I love this company and purchased all their products since bull run. I was always a challenge for me to install them.

Any ideas. Obviously I missed something. Just want a stand alone copy.

Saw your other thread. One post on this is enough. :)

If you had GB installed, then you should not have uninstalled it before you installed Chancellorsville. It is designed to check the registry and if Gettysburg entries are found, it will install as an expansion. If it is not found, it will install as standalone. So what happen here is that even though you removed Gettysburg, the Chancellorsville installer still thinks its there so it installs as an expansion, but the GB game content is not there to make it work. I would suggest re-installing GB 1.5, then reinstalling Chancellorsville expansion, and it will work.

I don't have the x3 copies I purchased for our LAN group. We had difficulties with LAN'ing said product. Our other 2 players in our group just did stand alone installs and the process seemed so much cleaner. They were LANNING no problem but the GB guys couldn't with them for some reason?
Wasn't aware on the purchase that if GB was uninstalled you couldn't just run CV? Or did I miss something in the write up.
To re-install all the other products over again do I need to dig up all the wonderful DRM serial #'s.... I have to do this on three machines :)

Thanks

Yes, you will always need the serials of the products when you install them. If you don't have them, you can contact Matrix support and they will provide them for you.

The GB installs were not with Matrix it was with Norbsoft......only the CV install. Who do we beg for a refund. We spent hours to get the other products working and not willing to spend the time this time around.
The product should run as is. I shouldn't have to play with registry files or install several other pieces of software IMHO.

Correct, but since we have moved to Matrix, it is in your best interest to get the matrix version of Gettysburg 1.5. That way you can ensure all the of expansions will work properly. Just to clarify, no additional purchase required. If you are registered with Matrix, you will find it in your downloads, and your original serial key will work with it.

Yes thank you aware no purchases are necessary. So are you saying that the most recent patch 1.5 and loading all my addons will save me the headaches of lanning your product. It took hours (mind you we LAN all the time with other games)....and really not just that interested in trying that out in the end. Just wanted to play CV 1.5 not install everything over again.
If that is the case then I will just toss it on the shelf for now.

Wish you would have indicated that if you have GB (whether installed presently or not) you NEED GB installed to play CV. [:-]

1. Register your games (GB and CV) with Matrix. (The NorbSoft number for GB will work.)

2. Go to the Members Section here and download whichever game you want. The version you get will be fully-patched. If you want just CV as a stand-alone, then try installing just the CV download. If that doesn't work for some reason, then install the GB download first, then CV.

I had the same problems you're having but the above approach fixed it.

That is not true. All the installer does is check to see if GB is installed. It does this by checking the registry. Maybe the issue is if the registry keys are there, but the folder no longer exists. Hopefully this is something that the installer is checking for.

If GB is installed, it installs CV as a map pack. If not it installs it stand alone. That's it. There's no hidden processes here.

My guess as to what's going wrong is that uninstall of GB does not remove the reg keys. So the installer thinks that GB is installed, but it is no longer installed. In any case, removing the NorbSoftDev reg key section will allow the game to install stand alone. Maybe the fault lies with our installer, in that maybe we were not removing the reg keys on uninstall.

I apologize that there are so many issues with this.

Ok so I should correct myself.

If you have UNINSALLED GB and don't have a IT degree to remove reg. file you cannot run a CV stand alone product period.

Do I have it correct?

If so not very nice.

Thanks man;

#2 is a no go as I have uninstalled the GB series. God knows where my 4 serial #'s are. Not really interested in digging for them. Not worth the time to me for $30.00 I guees. Pity CV looked good.

That's why I've gotten in the habit of registering my games here. I've lost too many serial numbers myself over the years.

And CV really is a good game. Probably worth dropping an email to Norbsoft asking for your GB serial number.

Or do this:
with regedit navigate to

WinXP 32 bit:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Software\Matrix Games

Win7 and WinXP 64 bit:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Wow6432Node\Matrix Games

Delete the entry.

Thanks!

You'll also want to delete the NorbSoftDev folders on the same level.

I have an IT degree and they never covered editing the registry. Though that was a while ago, might be different now. Emailing our support is the path for people that really want to get their issues resolved. It's also a good way to find out that we have a database of reg codes to email that we've kept since the beginning. We foresaw the issue of people misplacing their codes, so we've been offering this service for over a year.

Definitely do not delete the entire Matrix Games folder in your registry, unless you have no other Matrix games installed. If you do this you may need to re-install all your Matrix games. Delete only the relevant game subdirectory under there.

Always export the keys you are about to delete first, so then if you make a mistake, you can add them back into the registry.

You cannot use MP between two copies of the game with the same installer code. The rest of the install security is the same as with any other Matrix game.
