.bmp vs .png vs .jpeg

I am guessing that that deciding what file format to use is a simple case of file size and detail; the bigger the file the more detailed the image is likely to be?

I do my graphic work on a mac, then import into my "gaming" pc, and have found that using the png format has caused the least amount of troubles. (Don't know why, only know from trial & error.)

Actually, if one wants to use transparant pictures, such as the ones used by stock atg, one might want to stick to PNGs. JPGs don“t have a transparancy i think, and neither does BMP, and if i recall correctly, BMPs are uncompressed.
