I'm playing the GC as the Soviets and I'm a bit confused about upgrading (building up) units. I understand that they are date specific (Armor in April 42) but even so Rifle brigades should upgrade immediately. When I hit the upgrade button (selected hex with 3 Rifle brigades) it appears to want to Purchase units instead (shows box with Purchase Options). What am I missing? (

In the updated manual, dated Sept 13, 2012, I believe, is a list of changes and updates to date.

"Restricted Soviet Rifle brigades so they can’t merge into Rifle Divisions prior to May-1942."

Here is another important change - it took me by surprise.

"Soviet Army Command Capacity is changed as follows: 6/41-8/41 - 24 9/41-3/42 - 21 4/42-9/45 - 18"

You might consider to hold on to your brigades, anyway, to create infantry corps with the build up of 2 infantry divisions and 1 infantry brigade
