There is not description of the System Preferences - Video settings in the manual. Is there some where I can find this information?

I looked on the wiki and did not see explicit instructions. It pretty much comes down to your system and what works. If you have a good system, max out everything. Low end system, turn off as much as you can and go up from there.

Hmmm. I guess there isn't. That's an oversight.
