I updated to 1.14 recently and when I tried to join the MP lobby received what appears to be an incorrect error message. It says that the latest version is 1.5. See screenshot.

It is a known issue and Eric will get a fix soon. Meanwhile it is just a warning and you can still enter the lobby. Your version number will show next to your screen name on the upper right. You can then pick an opponent with the same version.

I thought I read that you can change game options directly while in the lobby. Can you explain how to do this?

There is now a button for options right in the lobby window.

I went looking for a picture but can't find one.

Whoever start the game sets the options. You can chat in the window to agree on options before you start. Use the dropdown to see what they are.
