Playing Possum

Sorry...I couldn't resist the play on words. Anyway...I was playing with Possum's v5....or, more accurately letting the AI play itself.
In December of 41' I stopped the game to see what was happening, productionwise. Soviet production was staggering, and I'm wishing now that I'd written down the numbers. However, the numbers were higher than I've seen in any of my PBEM games, so I wonder if the AI doesn't give itself a helping hand. Red Air was making itself felt against German airfields.
After setting it upon itself again, I took a shower. Coming back, I found it was 5/30/43. I took the opportunity to check things out.

Germany, discounting their allies was producing 318 AFV's and 246 aircraft per turn.

The Reds were producing (including lend lease) 573 AFV's and 519 aircraft.

Germany was producing more Pz-IIIM's than anything, so I changed them all over to Panthers. Returning in february 44' I discovered the AI didn't like my choice and had returned to building IIIm's.

At this juncture, the Reds were two hexes east of warsaw and just outside of Ploesti. Interestingly enough, Rmmel was still duking it out in Afrika and was there still at the war's end. Axis strength was around 11,104 to an allied strength of 3000. Every italian division was there as well as the Hermann Goering Division.

I missed the invasion of Normandy while making dinner (shrimp stirfry for those curious).

The war came to an end on 7/10/44. Interestingly, the Panzer divisions were anywhere from large to immense. Infantry seemed to be the weak point for Germany. Many divisions were fightring with just 90 or so squads in them and only 45 or so seemed to remain in the replacement pool. The Soviets had 28,000 unemployed squads in their's.

In the Air, Germany was dwarfed as well, with almost no presence in the east. Though I didn't see it happen, I'd guess that the units returned to okw or okh after being shattered and were rebuilt to a large size there. Their level of expereince was awful, none being over 70 with many closer to 50. The REd AF was only slightly higher. But, with no competition in the east they ruled the skies, pounding to death those hq's that had any air units in them whatsoever.

The Butcher's Bill at the end:

Axis/Soviets
squads 145130/134638
AFV's 35261/45029
Guns 64324/55387
Planes 40345/72345

For fun I multiplied the number of Axis squads lost by 50. The result was almost 7.5 million.

Dear Preuss:

Would you be so kind as to elaborate further on the shrimp stirfry? Post or send the recipe please. It must be darn delicious to keep you away from such a monumental struggle!

:)
