hello

what do these massages mean and where do they come from ?

1. save game failed to load

2. secrecy violation. oob corrupt blabla.....

does no2. only mean that there is something different in the players OOB??? how can you go shure, that the oponent has not just changed some weapon parameters,so that they do better than in "normal" OOB ???

just some thought.....

and: have you experienced some kind of "cheating" in one of your games. i think it suxx, because if you cheat your victory or even a draw against a good player is worth nothing...

Frank,
The first thing you need to do is make sure that both players have the same version. (ver. 7.1 for example) Now make sure that you both have the same patches installed, or no patches.
Next, when exiting the game, give the program a few seconds to save the files before quitting completely. Sometimes if you exit out too fast, you will get some different time stamps on the files. This can cause a security notice, and it can also cause the "fail to load" problem.
The OOB error can be lots of things. You should probably both check to make sure that you haven't loaded any "modified OOB's".
Cheating:
There are some players that cheat on purpose, and then there are those that use tactics that some people consider cheating while others don't. So the best thing to do in PBEM's is to set some guidelines before playing someone you don't know. Over all, you won't find that many cheaters. The word gets out on them pretty fast. If you think someone is cheating, or using a "feature" of the game that you don't like, ask them about it, or don't play them anymore.
Getting back to the fail to load problem: If you continue to have problems, send me and email and I will try to help you with it.
Good luck and welcome to PBEM's, the BEST part of SPWAW :D

this security violation thingy was addressed on the blitz forum

some ppl have the original oobs and some have 7.1x

i wish everyone would get 7.1x..as i understand it they are the latest unofficial oobs but were done by Paul Vebber of Matrix during the Lost Victories fix phase

tho i think that h2h may become the standard

as to the cheating part...some "tactics" cheats can be avoided by agreeing upon things beforehand (too much arty, lotsa rockets, uhus, etc)

as to modifying oobs, its all greek to me

here are the updated oobs (latest unofficial) but as close to official as you can get

I get that every time I load a saved PBEM game. Doesn't seem to be a problem as far as the game goes.

Eric,

Judging by your other problems with the Jap tracked FO and the d/l file sizes I think you may have a problem with your mech.exe file or some other supporting file which might be corrupted.

I have never seen the message "this unit can not assign artillery" in SPWAW- either it is in contact and has orders or it is out of contact or out of orders. Those are the constraints that determine whether or not a unit is able to assign a bombardment.

You should never see the security or corrupt oob warnings if both you and you opponent are using the identical oob's and you are both only playing on one computer. You will see these mesages if you started the game on one computer and are now playing it on a second computer, or if you started the game and have subsequently re-installed SPWAW.

Ask your opponent(s) what the date stamp is on their oob files and their mech.exe file and compare that with yours.

#2 doesn't always mean a difference in players OOB's it can also occur if you are playing a predesigned scenario that was created with one version of OOB's and it was edited in any manner and saved using a different version of OOB's than it was originally designed with. I have played many predesigned battles with both players using the same OOB version and we edited the scenario (with permission from the other player) for some reason to correct something such as experieince or intial placement of units and the player that didn't do the saving of the updated scenario after corrections were made receives security violations. It is perfectly fine to contiune with this warning.

#1 usually means a corrupted save for some reason or another.

Stuart, I've seen this message before, but I can't remember the circumstances.

Seriously, I just had that happen to me. Ask your opponent to re-zip the files for your game and resend them to you. One or more probably got futzed up while being zipped.

Frank,
Are you having trouble with any other PBEM games, or just this one? How about your opponent, is he having troubles also? You might just have to start over, or go back to a turn that didn't give you a load error. :(

I think I've figured out why I get an 'OOB security violation' error mesage when I'm playing the Germans in PBEM. A while back I was interested in the Goliath remote-controlled demolition unit and modified the kettenkrafttrad tracked motorcycle in the German OOB using the OOB editor. This probably registers in the PBEM game's system as an OOB violation. (I chose the kettenkraftrad, as I never use it as is.) The modified 'Goliath' proved rather clunky and I'd forgotten I'd even done it until I was reviewing the Germany 'Encyclopedia' and saw the modified unit.

I've noticed that I only get this error mesage when playing the Germans, so I'm pretty sure this is what is causing this.
