In college I had two years of French. I could read it quite well but my pronunciation was horrible. I told the prof I was trying to impersonate a southern French hillbilly with a speech impediment. He didn't appreciate the humor. Or maybe it was my humming the Horst Wessel song in class.

AS far as languages go...to my English tongue, pronouncing French is a little like trying to be agile while waist deep in a quagmire.
Trying to sound Austalian is almost as difficult...like trying to talk through the roof of your mouth...my wife says i can't even come close, though I can do a decent Sean Connery....Missiles don't react too well too bullets...

Just relax. i speak all languages with an horrible accent.
French : Belgian accent - not as strong as Quebec accent but sufficientl differnt from paris to attract immediate origin discovery.
but my greatest achievement is in English : i am often mistaken for a german by US citizens or as a dutch (fr those who know the difference (if they exist).
As for Dutch :i have half a flemmish accent, half french. Very proud of that too.
but i never make fun of someody else's accent : as longas you try there is hope.
