US sub attacked by US surface ship

Using v1.40, I moved a sub into the Rabaul hex to see what was there. A Japanese transport TF moved into the hex the next turn and the sub attacked one of the ships there. One problem; the ship was a US ship, a destroyer minesweeper (DMS). When the torpedoes missed, the DMS then depthcharged my sub using US weapons. The after action report listed both the sub and DMS under Allied ships, and nothing under the IJN category.

Has anyone else seen this happen?

I haven't seen it in any of my games, but it could be one of those bugs that is actually an added feature.....ship identification problems.

The sub commander couldn't positively identify the ship, but in his mind he's thinking....."It's a surface ship in the major Japanese port of Rabaul...So it HAS to be a Japanese ship!...FIRE!!!"

Unrelated but.....The old SSI classic "Silent Hunter" was a great game, but if you saw a ship from your sub, you knew it was an enemy ship. You never saw your own task forces. This took away a lot from the game. Ship identification was no longer critical.
