Question about CV squadrons on land bases.

Okay, after about three weeks, the hull on the Wasp is patched up enough that I managed to get her to Noumea - with 56 system damage level, and a max speed of twelve. I really don't feel like sending her to Pearl quite yet - and one of the mitigating factors is this question - what will happen to her air group - which is now giving the IJN fits based at Lunga - if she leaves the theater, to wit,
will they disappear?
Will they cease to receive replacements?
will they continue to serve their country where they are assigned or stop flying altogether?
etc., etc., etc. (Take that down and send it to President Lingkong.)

They stay in the game and function just fine. When (or if) the carrier ever comes back from Pearl it will be without an airgroup.

Hope this helps

Rev, Did you manage to remove the compleat squadron, or just a Subunit?
If it's the compleat Squadron, it will function just like any other Navy/Marine Land based Squadron.
If it's a subunit, then it will continue to function as a subunt, untill such time as the parent carrier is again capable of operating aircraft. At that time it will teleport back to the carrier to rejoin it's parent Squadron.

CV Airgroups on land

I managed to get the entire air group off of her. She creaked into port with 61 sys damage and 85 floatation damage. I managed to offload the squadrons by basing them in Luganville - the subunits had already diverted to Lunga during the battle. When they spent the night there, all of their friends and colleagues decided to rejoin the rest of the group, and it was complete - on the base. Then I sent them all to Lunga, figuring the IJN would sooner or later show up there, and might just stumble into range of a hopping mad USN air group whose bird farm was in the repair shop for a while.

I have yet to see the subunits automatically rejoin there unit, whether it be troopers or aircraft.
Or maybe I just have not noticed, I'll look out for it tonight.

RevRick,

There is no reason to hold onto the Wasp. With 56 sys damage it will be months before it is repaired and if not in Pearl I garantee that it will take longer. Ships are safe during thier trips to/from Pearl

Also if you send it back to Pearl it won't count against your ships in theater total, and increase your chances of getting fresh ships.

As a general rule I send ships back if thier sys damage gets over 20.

By the way if the only reason you were holding onto the Wasp was because you were afraid that you would lose the air groups, then ignore this.

In general...

in game terms, I just got her back to Noumea yesterday...and I was concerned about the air group, since it is really handy to have this early in the campaign.

As a former squid, I really wouldn't like to make a transit to Pearl solo at 12 kts. with bunches of nasty people seeking to do my ship harm out there - even though in game terms I know that it's virtually an automatic trip. With that much damage, she would probably end up at Puget Sound or Mare Island anyway, so I probably won't see the Wasp at all in this campaign.

To me, it's a bloody miracle she made it to Noumea! Two torps and three bombs, or vice versa, but it was five hits anyway. Find the Chief Engineer and the DC officer of that ship and buy them a round or two! They deserve it. Then put them to work in the training tanks.
