I'm eyeing this title and watching youtube videos of the various betas. Anyone pick it up yet? Thoughts?

STAY. CLEAR.

It's basically unplayable at the moment, due to EA bungling the launch of it. One would think they'd be able to predict that a game without an actual singleplayer mode, requiring the player to be always online when he plays, might need a lot of server power.

It's engaging and fun WHEN/IF you can get on a server. Worst launch ever...

And if you buy the game you practically ensure that future EA products will have single player online requirements and every launch will be as shitty as this one.

you don't buy this game - you rent it

the maps are very small compared to sim city 4 and so are the regions

as soon as they (EA) decide to close their servers down in a few years time then you can no longer play it

having said that the game does seem fun - this guy quill18 did a live stream and does some really excellent "lets play" vids - he played for about 5 hours solid though he did have a server crash and had to start a new game part way through because he couldn't get back on the original server (and you can't play a save game on a different server)

Thanks guys. It looks visually stunning, and I always loved the series. I didn't realize its always online, however. I spend a lot of time on planes for work, and Railroad Tycoon always got me through - I thought this might have been a good replacement, but not if I can't play offline! That doesn't make any sense to me. It ought to be an option, but what's the point of having it on a laptop if I can't take it somewhere without the internet?

I refuse to support such draconian practices. The only thing I can do is vote with my dollars. I'll stay away.

Shame in a way it does look fun.

A no go for me, not only online only which is a joke and I wouldn't buy on principle but a major step backwards from simcity 4 the maps are tiny city's have to be rectangular grids to fit even a small size town on them, no farming or space to landscape no highways, expensive for a basic game that will then have lots of extra content dripped in dlc's each at a cost and then with very little warning they will turn the servers off as they have done many times in the past.

Taken a great game and nerfed it IMO.

I'll stick with simcity 4 and cities XL.

Ive thought my original quote over and it is alittle harsh. Let's just say I won't buy their games. But I don't want anyone losing their jobs.[:)]

It's frightful to watch how EA is messing up this disaster of a launch. They've just asked all media outlets (primarily websites) who've hosted adverts for Sim City to take them down. Presumably this is an attempt to avoid having even more pressure on their servers, though one would assume this won't be a problem the more word spreads of this fiasco.

I do believe you are right. A bad launch I can understand. A terrible launch and they may rethink things. Persistent online. Sheesh.

Whatever guys, I am happy with it.[8|]

I meant to add, if you make Fox News, there is a problem. LOL:

'SimCity' launch proves disastrous

You may be one of the few. It has a current user score of 1.5 at Metacritic. Any stock in EA?

That is a little cherry picking. The game has very good reviews, before the server issue. The horrible ratings are post server crash. Of course the best game in history will see a drop in average ratings after something like this. But the problem will be corrected and this does not take away from a fun, beautiful game.

Here is just one example, from Hardcoregamer.com

"When it’s working, SimCity is an ecstatic god game that can be addicting to play"
