Are in the game included special forces?

Please can you also give a list with the differend unit types and equipment?

Sorry, it's just a little early yet for both those questions!

Special Forces would be somewhat hard to model using the existing game engine. The focus is on mass vehicular traffic, not stealthy movement by small groups of men on foot.

FWIW, I was thinking of a scenario where a special forces op goes wrong and the team is pinned down in a village. The premise of the game is that a small unsupported tank and infantry combat team is racing in to extricate them before the bad guys show up. What they don't know is that the enemy is expecting them and has his prize helicopter assets lying in wait. It would be a very asymetrical battle, with possession of the special forces guys at the end being the prize. Probably not what you were thinking of though...

As for the equipment list, it might still change radically so I don't want to rush in with a commitment just yet. There are examples of most of the major items in inventory, but not all the multitude of variants. In game terms I have plenty to keep me busy validating the basic game functionality for now, and there might not be much point in modelling the finer distinctions anyway. It adds a lot of chrome, but surprisingly little substance IMHO. This will depend largely though on the research resources that become available to us. So far research has been a bottleneck for the project... The list is open ended, and with the right kind of help we could put absolutely everything in....

Please also bear in mind that the first release is meant to be the West Germans, British, Soviets and Americans for 1989. We will be expanding nationalities and years as rapidly thereafter as research allows.

Sorry not to have a clearer answer for you, but that is the way it stands now.

Cheers, Rob.

Gee, you're so subtle. Looking for help are you?

Ha, yes, er I guess so.

I think I said right at the beginning that my modern knowledge was a mere trifle compared to my WW2 knowledge and that I was somewhat bemused to be assigned this particular title. I'm no slouch at research and enjoy it hugely but I just can't do it and code all these fiddly little windows components and worry about the AI and all the million other little details that only the programmer can really take care of. Plus the day job plus the home front too.

The artwork is really coming along beautifully (Iain and Marc) and the game mechanics are nearing completion, but we are (sadly) a little behind in the research / scenario creation area. We have tapped a person who is highly knowledgable and promised to do it, but his own day job has interfered substantially to date. I would have to say that if we don't get going soon we will have to widen the circle a little....

I appreciate your concern. Stay tuned!

Cheers, Rob.

Hi Rob

That scenario you are thinking of was actually carried out by the NVA in Vietnam in 1965. In the Ia Drang Valley when they laid seige to the Special Forces Camp near Pleiku. The relief force was an ARVN regiment moving up highway 19 and in wait was an entire NVA regiment. Both units were mauled pretty badly especially when the US intervened by sending in the 1st Brigade of the 1st Cav Div.

Pegasus?

Why not put out a call for help and let us know what particular help you need? You might be surprised at the response.
