I just had my sub torpedoed by a DD, first he threw some DC's at me then I was hit by a torpedo. What the hell my sub was doing is another thing, still it was quite impressive.

I have actually watched a PT boat torpedo a sub, it sank the Jap sub also. How this is possible is beyond me. It took place during a night surface action battle by the sub. Which missed the PT with a spread of 5 torpedoes. That PT boat skipper def. deserved some liberty time. Also the PT boat was at 0 fuel state.

Never saw this but I guess I could imagine it. DCs force a shallow sub to surface because of serious damage and the DD pops a couple of fish at it.

Or a sub commander surfaces to take out a drifting and seemingly helpless PT boat with his deck gun and the cool thinking PT skipper get's a good shot in.

It's not unheard of for a surfaced sub to be sunk by an enemy sub. I've just never seen it in this game.

I could see those circumstances, but this was a DD, no sub commander in his right mind would engage a DD on the surface after having had a few DC's lobed at him (by the way they all missed - only the torp hit).

I'm not complaining, it was quite impressive to see. What is says to me is that the sub was poncing around on the surface and never noticed this enemy DD right up his backside. The DD obviously saw him first, and I'm assuming launced a torp then followed up with DC's (torps take longer to get to target - or at least I hope thats how the game modeled it).

Anyway any sub commander that gets caught like that deserves to die anyway.

By the way it was with the AI setting at very hard.

As an aside its bloody hard playing against the AI this way. I lost 3 subs in the first week to MSW's, and every plane battle was a lopsided affair. For example (don't have exact figures this from memory) 27 M2's escorting 12 bombers lost 2 fighters and a bomber against a CAP of 36 Wildcats, 9 Wirraways and about 15 each of P39's and P400's. I lost 5 Wildcats, 2 Wirraways and about 3 each of the P39's and P400's. And this wasn't just a once off either. So far I have lost 69 planes to his 34, most of them fighters in Air to Air.

Should give it a go sometime.

And before anyone asks, all my guys had relatively good morale and low fatigue, although I'd hate to think what it would be after a couple more rounds of that. in the meantime I'm keeping my carriers well away from his for the moment.

Wise move IMO. I always feel like one of the Three Stooges running around in the early part of a scen, just pretending to fight.

Keep this DD Commander he's smart, most DD Commanders would ram the sub and mess up their ship.

He was the oppositions though, curse him, I owned the dopey sub who joined Davey in his locker
