This will be a joint AAR written by both of us. I'm playing Japan, Kris is playing the Allies. We’re playing the Reluctant Admiral mod with extended map and stacking limits. The game started back in October 2012 using RA 4.6. We have updated the database as newer RA versions came out; we just upgraded to RA 5.5. We’re using the latest beta, now at 23h. In our game it’s now 4 Jun 42.
Here’s the action up to now: Guam was captured on 10 Dec 41; Wake on 14 Dec 41; Midway on 9 Jan 42.
The Southern Resources Area was occupied along fairly historical timelines. Manila was captured on 13 Feb 42, Clark Field on 11 Mar 42, and Bataan on 23 Apr 42. The historical romp down Malaya ended with the capture of Singapore on 18 Feb 42, after a 1 week siege. Sumatra was invaded through Oosthaven on 20 Dec 41 and Palembang was captured on 16 Jan 42. Java was invaded at Merak on 3 Mar 42, ending with the capture of Soerabaja on 22 Apr 42 and Batavia on 1 May 42.
Rangoon was ceded to Japan on 22 Jan 42 when the Allies departed for points north. In the Solomons/New Guinea area Rabaul was captured on 19 Dec 41, Tulagi on 19 Feb 42 and Guadalcanal on 5 Mar 42 (these last two were occupied, not really captured). Port Moresby was captured on 22 May 42 by a combined overland and seaborne invasion. In the southern DEI Koepang was finally secured on 26 May 42.
In China the Allies quickly withdrew to defensible terrain losing a few corps in the process. Changsha was ceded to Japan on 25 Feb 42. Currently, Japanese forces are 80 miles from Tuyun, in Chihkiang which is still controlled by China, and stopped 80 miles south and 40 miles east of Sian. Yenan has been overrun, and forces are just east of Lanchow.
Aleutian islands as far east as Adak have recently been occupied by Japan (Attu on 17 May, Amchitka on 22 May, and Adak on 26 May 42).
Port Hedland, Australia was captured on 1 Jun 42 and transports are at Broome unloading.
We have yet to have a carrier vs. carrier engagement, but Saratoga was sunk by submarine torpedo leaving San Diego in early January.
Since we’ll both be contributing to this there won’t be much “if I do this, will he do that?” kind of stuff. It will be after the fact and probably a lot of what poor luck one or both of us has. Stay tuned.
