Guys,
The new maps for FPG have really been coming along. I was talking to the mother ship tonight and they said we should share a little of the good news. So here's a few previews of the first map which is based on the original "Central Germany Map"
First of all here's a preview of the whole map. This is at 25% of the full game resolution (which will be 2640x1980). The map covers 20kmx15km on the ground.

Perfect spot for an OP
BTW - these shots are in full game resolution. Although they are jpg's so some of the detail gets fuzzy

That's how I like to think of this quaint little watering hole (at screen centre) overlooking the fields running down to the river.
Hope you enjoyed them.
I warn you right now that shameless sucking up is likely to make me feel like I have to post more of them

Lovely buildings and patches of forest and do my eyes see a golf course too?
The fields look a bit odd because there's green, yellow and brown... now would that be that some crops have already been harvested? I don't watch fields so often but would seem a bit odd to me

.
... when you take the quality further you get interesting issues?
... yes they look great, don't kill me

In my fevered imagination...
Brown = fallow fields (not planted to allow it to rest - this is done as often as every couple of years depending on crops)
Yellow = Mature grain (barley, wheat, oats), canola.
Green = Vegetable crops, soya beans, early grain. Shade of green varies depending on the age and type of the crop.
.... well you did ask

I like it so much I made it my Windows wallpaper! It is extraordinarily good, thanks Iain.
Cheers, Rob.

Not bad at all...pretty typical of how the fields are laid out in Germany. They rotate crops a lot so you will always see the dark brown ones interspersed with the others. The brown is a good color. The green crops they primarily grow soy beans and sugar beets. They look like a large potato that they derive sugar from. The green fields are pretty close. As for the yellow...I would make it a little more on the tan side to better represent the wheat, barley, and hops that are grown.
I like the detail in the cities...very nice job Christie.

Thanks for the feedback

Well Sabre - you are probably pretty well fixed to know since you spent ALOT of time looking down at them
Not a problem to tweak a colour here or there. Things are still evolving every day.
I appreciate you taking the time to give some constructive advice.

They grow a lot of corn too...forgot about that. I have blown over my share of corn crops with rotor wash:)

Can we zoom in a bit more (German girls like sunbathing in the nuddy). I'm sure Sabre21 could vouch for that.

Funny Drongo:)
There was a place down by the Main river about 5km off the end of the airfield that was a popular nudist spot. Plus with the Cobras 13x telescopic sight unit and flying at about 100 ft you could see pretty good detail...of course I never did that kind of stuff;)

Well, that just trashed my concentration for the afternoon! Makes me look at the maps in a whole new light though....
Rob.
Well, Robert asked for a golf course...

and see what happened...
And the other day we were talking about needing an airfield... now I have ALL SORTS of ideas.
BTW, Drongo - very nice technique. I'll have to delve into the library to see what I can come up with for later tonight.

Here's a few more shots. These are from the second map, which is still a work in progress so you'll notices some details (like bridges) are still missing.

This map is located in Northern Germany. One of the major terrain features is a large marshy area, a portion of which is shown here

And here's a look at a portion of the map in the game "zoomed out" scale (33pix/500m square).
Sabre - you'll note that the grain fields have gone more tan as you suggested. Is that better?

Iain what time is our tee time? I'm not very good at golf so how many strokes are you going to give me a side and how much do you want to play for? I'll bring the beer, you bring your checkbook:D I know you artistes make mad money.
BTW the maps are beautiful
