Hi,

I have begun to create my own theme. I included several customized characters. I have something similar to this:

0,John,1, john.png, human, ???????? ???
0, Jim,2, , human, ???????? ???

1, Kylar, 6, kylar.png, human, ???????? ???
2, Finn, 6, finn.png, securan, ???????? ???
3, Obiwan, 6, obiwan.png, human, ???????? ???

7, Quigon, 6, quigon.png,human, ???????? ???
8, Typhodil, 6, typhodil.png, human, ???????? ???
12, Zeratul, 6, zeratul.png, human, ???????? ???

Since I'm playing human, I start the game with my 2 starting characters (John and Jim) and I get 2 spies. I'm expecting to get Kylar and Finn.

I am not getting Kylar and Finn every game.

After a few experiments, I have seen that I can get 4 duos
- Kylar and Finn (1,2)
- Obiwan and Luke (3,5)
- Klous and Quigon (6,7)
- Typhodil and Zeratul (8,12)

I never got a random character with the human race picture.

What I have seen in my experiments is that the chosen duo depends on the galaxy size (stars + size, I did not test each factor alone) and on the storylines (activated or not).

Is there something I am doing wrong with my character file ?

This is not a big issue. In fact, I would prefer random apperance order. I just would like to know how it works.

The order is not overall, the order for the characters is for that type of character. You may get to leader 8 before you spawn governor 1, etc.

In your example, you should be getting them in the order you have them. Kylar first, then Finn, right on down the list, since they are all the same type of character.

Now then, the real key here is: Are you the ONLY human empire in the game? If not, then an AI empire is getting some of the characters as well...all human empires will share this list of characters.

Thanks on the info concerning same race empires sharing characters, I did not know that.

However, I set each empire to be from a different race.

Which is what I do, but it you also have it set so that the independent colonies can become empires, then you could end up with another same race empire in game.

Another thing to consider is that pirate factions of the same race also read from the same character list, IIRC. Intel agents would be a shared group in that case.

That explains it then.
