How do they work, where do they come from?

Looking in the editor I see 6 names in the pilot list under 1st Sentai. When I open the game, there are like 40 pilots (all with names) in the group. Where do all these names come from? I don't see them in the editor. Are they somehow hardcoded?

The extra pilots are drawn from the pool. Until they are drawn into a squadron, pilots who have graduated from training just exist in a kind of limbo with no identity.

When you draw pilots from the pool into a squadron, the program tacks on a random of around +/-5 from the level of the pool they were drawn from and a name is assigned from a list of possible names with an initial tacked on. That's why you might end up with a bunch of pilots with the same last name.

Many thanks Bill. Where does the list of possible names come from for an initial to get randomly tacked on? Does it come from the pilots database?

I guess to make a long story short. If I do a German air squadron and I want only German names, how would I arrange that, or is it not possible? I currently have IJA as Germans and IJN as Japanese in this crazy mod of mine.

The names are coded in which means your German pilots are going to have Japanese names. For some reason there are some Hungarian names, but they aren't used.

Too bad the random names aren't from an editable list.

In my alternate history I guess I'll have to throw in that Germany gets a flood of Japanese immigrants in the 1920s. [:D]
