Playing regular Species in Shadows

In Shadows does the player have to build(design) warp-drive private ships, i.e. freighters etc. Or does program/AI automatically build as you
begin to leave one's home system?? after developing warp-drive technologies.??

The game comes with (six I think) default designs, 3 sizes of cargo ship (s-m-lg), passenger ship, a gas mining ship, and an ore mining ship. I don't remember if a pre-warp empire gets these automatically, or not. Starting with a warp civ does get them. If pre warp don't have these designs, just start a post warp game and take a look at the designs.. then you should be able to design your own in the pre warp game.

Thanks, but I'm asking if the AI automatically builds warp ships for the private sector once you research warp drives OR do I/player have to design/build first ones?

I design the private sector ships myself, so not sure if the automated will add the warp drive or not. Could always just play a quick game with cheap tech cost to see if the automatic update will add it.

I'm new to the game and have been leaving ship design on 100% auto and for sure its been upgrading all my ship designs and ships along the way. Once I get a better handle on the game I'll dive into designing my own ships.

Guys(&gals), thanks for all replies; I play with just about everything on "manual", so in this present game I just went ahead & designed my own & all is well!!!!

I'm full manual, but I'd guess it's only intended to upgrade the Components already present in the Design. They're distinguished with Auto Upgrade adding CST-1 MK2-3-4.. indicators, while Full Automatic Designing is like CST-1-2-3...
