Another resource question

Having turned ship design to manual I began to design my first ship. One of the components in the available list is showing up highlighed with a pop up telling me I might not be able to build it as I do not have the necessary resources, in this case it's krypton. Checking my stock I have 1.8K with 0.9K in transit and 0K unfulfilled. I also have zero sources.
Now if I have a component that cannot be built because I lack a resource I would expect that resource to appear in the list of Critical Empire Resources. It doesn't, there's nothing in it.

The warning means that you do not have insufficient amounts of that resource at your ship building site. Having zero sources means that very soon, you will run out, and ships won't every complete. However, until then a few ships will be built. See if you can design a ship that can fulfill the mission without that component -as a short term fix....

Thanks but I realise that. The real question is why the shortage is not recognised as a need. I.e Why it does not appear as a Critical Empire Resources as it is if you have a component that uses it and you don't have any.

Ah, yes, 'critical empire' resources are a standard (specific for each species/empire) set of resources - a category of resources. They appear with a white-ish border around them on the expansion planner. Critical resources actually have nothing to do with current resource availability - but is merely a designation for a set of 2, 3 or 4 resources.

Those are merely the available and visible sources of your species' Bonus Resources.
