strange alien ways modifier reset

when i was playing i noticed that sometimes other empires which i was on good terms with would suddenly distrust me. when i looked at the diplomacy screen i could see that they "distrust my strange alien ways". this is odd since i have known them for years and that modifier decreased to zero but now its back (i have not seen it at -25 but that might be because it has already decreased a little)
I'm not sure whats causing this but it messes up my tech trading plans.
i have seem this happen in multiple games.

I have seen this happen, too. It first appeared in the Shadows expansion, and I don't know if it was intended to be this way. For now I just roll play the issue by believing there was a leadership change in the empire that this occurs and I am starting over by getting to know the new management. But I would like an answer if the game is suppose to do this or not.

It is one of the race characteristics of the Quameno that they do this periodically. Just saying...

well the only stock race (playing extended mod) that i remember this happening to was the quameno.
if it happens again i will report what race it happened too.
