How will AI handle BVR fighter v fighter combat?

I was wondering if anyone can shed some light on the tactical decisions the AI will make in air to air combat between fighters.

I'm particularly curious about BVR missle employment. Can we expect fighters with active missiles to make use of the capabilities or simply employ and keep trucking in all the way to the merge?

Similarly I am wondering how the AI will handle being a SARH shooter vs an active threat. Employ missiles and simply try to keep them until timeout, or perhaps react if any awareness on the threat employing against them, potentially wasting their missiles but surviving.

I'd be interested to hear some about how this is handled. And if the AI is not capable of it, what the options are when a human is controlling.

Thanks!

Some of the things the AI can do if you let it:
* Accelerate & climb before a BVR shot in order to impart maximum downrange to the weapon.
* Descent in order to maintain lock if the radar is not full-LDSD capable.
* Crank after the shot in order to shrink the enemy DLZ, while still keeping the target within illumination arc (for SARH shots).
* Hold-and-breakaway completely in order to avoid incoming fire, and then turn back to reacquire.
* Recognize when the BVR joust is over and WVR merge begins, and adjust accordingly (different tactics).

Under manual control, you have complete authority on course/throttle/altitude/sensors/weapons so it's up to you.

Sounds good! All things you listed are important, good to hear they are modeled. Can't wait to put it through its paces and see how things go. Thanks for answering!
