Upgrading/retrofitting ships

I post this earlier in the general forum but think it needs it's own thread

In the game I'm playing I have research and ship design switched to manual in Empire Policy but with all the subroles ticked. In the design screen ships are all set to auto retrofit. Problem is they are not retrofiting automatically and I don't think they will form the note on the Research & Design part of the Empire Policy.

The way I'm reading it is you have full (manual or auto) control of what is retrofitted if Ship Design set to automatic. If Ship Design is set to manual then nothing is carried out automatically. With a large number of ships this becomes somewhat taxing.

The two things should be separate functions of the game. Auto/manual design and auto/manual retrofit. The ticky boxes on the Empire policy could easily be used to control how the subroles retrofit.

In design screen you can choose - auto or manual retrofit

That only comes into play IF you have set the Empire Policy to 'Fully Automate Ship Design'. If you set it to Control Ship Design manually thn it has no effect what-so-ever as per the note on the design screen and on the Empire Policy.
