August 5, 2013
I have some issues with the game that I have been very vocal about. So I thought I would provide a walkthrough of the first scenario of the AGN campaign to highlight them. My objective is to show what the issues are to me so that the game can hopefully be improved. Please let me know your thoughts.
The settings are with FoW On and Normal. My objective is to avoid fighting, especially the front line Russian troops, as much as possible.
Below are the starting positions of the Germans before my move.

Here are the positions after my move. I did not attack a single unit the first turn. Notice my armor units in the center just moved through the gaps without firing a shot.

From this point on there are two screenshot per turn, a Northern one and a Southern one. The Northern area will be first followed by the Southern one.
Here is the Northern one after my move. The armor continues to move towards Riga with no ill effects and still have not attacked any units with the armor.

The Armor unit in the center stopped and refitted this turn. While the other one continued Northeast along the road. They will refit next turn. There was fighting along the coast as the Russians pushed in against my units. The same thing occurred in the Southern part of this shot.

Still no attacks by the group North of the river. My fighters are on this side working on killing off the Russian bomber that is roaming the area. Lot of fighting South of the river as the Russians are very aggressive in this area.

Cleared out the Russians along the coast. Ran into a Russian armor unit along the road and decided to attack it. Not that I needed to. Just felt like it. Already violating my goal of minimum attacks.

Finally attacked with the group North of the river. Still heavy fighting South of the river.

Infantry started catching up to the armor on the road. Positioning for the Riga push. The coastal group starts heading north.

Cleared out the city and refitting to take the bridge. As the Russian unit in the top center has no importance, I will leave alone. Fighting is still occurring in the South.

Not much happening here other than moving further East and North.

The Russian infantry that was at the top of the screen in the last shot, decided to pay a visit. Needless to say it did not end well for them. Again I did not care about the Russian in the top center as the VP areas are well protected.
Finally cleared out some of the Russian units so the fighting South of the river is dying down.

Got rain. How annoying. So not much done anywhere so no shot for the northern area this turn.
However, I did capture the bridge in the South.

Weather cleared up. The armor continues the push to Riga after refitting during last turn’s rain storm. The coastal group prepares for an assault. I am not sure if that is a VP location or not but it has the crosshair symbol so I am assuming it is.

The South part of the map is complete. So I sent the armor over to get some experience against the Russian infantry. Again violating ‘my don’t attack unless needed policy’. I am so glad I listen to myself lol.

As you can see Riga has been captured which was the last VP location needed, completing the scenario. The South was completed last turn and no effort on the Russians to get any VPs back. So obviously the city on the coast was NOT a VP location so had no need to travel up there at all.

Final position for the Southern area. The 12 Russian armor unit did not do much in the game. It attacked in the first few turns, then moved back to the bridge, then moved back to where you see it below. So very ineffecient use by the russian AI [:)]

With zero losses to the Germans. I did burn through all my replacement points, mainly because I did not care. I certainly did not need to use any of them.

In conclusion, this points out what I consider the major flaws in converting Panzer Corps to a historical setting, lack of supply lines (i.e. refit anywhere, anytime) and not enough unit density, either through more units on the maps (which Eric has stated is NOT going to happen) or extended Zones of Control. Or something else.
The ONLY time my Northern armor units stopped was to refit and to attack the Russian armor unit on Turn 4. I could have easily just kept on heading to Riga instead and gotten there even sooner than I did.
The Armor unit in the South attacked twice, once to take the Southern city VP location and the Russian infantry, which really was totally unnecessary.
Hopefully this brief AAR showcases the issues for everyone so the game can became the great game it could be. Now if we can just get railroads on the maps all would be good [:D]
